What is DBT and who would benefit from it?
DBT Skills are appropriate for many people, including those struggling with depression, anxiety, bi-polar, addiction, self-harming, borderline personality disorder or other mood disorders.
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a specific type of cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy developed in the late 1980s by psychologist Marsha M. Linehan. It is most commonly taught in a group setting. Since its development, it has been used for the treatment of many kinds of mental health disorders. The theory behind DBT is that some people are prone to react in a more intense manner toward certain emotional situations, primarily those found in romantic, family and friend relationships. DBT theory suggests that some people’s distress levels in these types of situations can increase far more quickly than what is to be expected. It is also observed that these individuals attain a higher level of emotional stimulation and take much more time to calm themselves following the emotion. DBT was developed to address these types of behaviors and to help restore peace to our lives.
How it works
On-going program to learn skills in the areas of mindfulness, validation, wise mind, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness.
Group meets once a week for a 90 minute group
Each group session is $50.00 in Gilbert and $40.00 in Queen Creek** (insurance cannot be used)
Weekly, bi-weekly or monthly individual skills sessions are encouraged to coincide with group. (These sessions may be billed to insurance if available)
